Wagering, in rands

Wagering is the amount you have to bet before bonus funds, and sometimes the deposit that came with them, can be withdrawn. The multiple is meaningless until you know what it multiplies.

What gets multiplied

Some coupons multiply the bonus only. Others multiply the deposit plus the bonus. A 30x bonus-only rule on a R100 bonus is R3,000 of bets. A 30x rule on deposit plus bonus, which is what Springbok’s terms page states for deposit coupons unless a coupon says otherwise, turns a R100 deposit and a R100 bonus into R6,000 of bets. Same “30x” on the banner, twice the stake.

Springbok’s terms also say no-deposit coupons are 60 times the bonus unless stated otherwise. On their R250 coupon that is R15,000 of bets, and the promo page caps the payout at R1,250. Both numbers are needed. A cleared coupon can still hit a cashout cap.

Games do not all count the same

Springbok lists games that count towards wagering, including slots, keno, bingo, scratch cards and several poker variants, and says wagers on excluded games can void the bonus and the winnings. Other casinos weight blackjack and roulette at a fraction, or at zero. If the weighting table is not on the coupon, open the terms before you play the table games with bonus money.

A short checklist

  • Does the multiple apply to the bonus, or to deposit plus bonus, or to free-spin winnings as well?
  • Which games count, and at what percentage?
  • Is there an expiry, a maximum bet per spin, and a maximum withdrawal?
  • Can the coupon be combined with another one? Springbok says new-player coupons cannot be stacked.
  • What happens if you request a withdrawal early? Springbok says the request is denied and the previous bonus’s wagering remains.

White Lotus prints “wagering x40” on SIGNUP150 and “40 times the deposit, bonus received and amount obtained from the free spins” on the October promo. Apollo prints “wagering x30” on SIGNUP250 and a 30-times line on the October spins promo. Those phrases are not interchangeable. Read the one on the coupon you redeem.
